Why? August 5, 2010

Why am I writing another fan fic?

For a long time, I never thought I would write another one because I have so many completely original story ideas running in my head.  Fan fiction can be a challenge to write because, at least I try, to stay within the confines of the Cannon that has been established by the creator(s) of that Universe.  There is a lot of fan fic out there, much of it is bad.  Many people think that its just the author trying to live in that universe.  Even the bad stuff out there has worth to me.  The fact that someone has taken the time to put their ideas down and even willing to share their creation with the universe should be commended.

Who cares if they are trying to live in their fandom?  That’s where some of my ideas come from or I ask myself how would I deal with this situation (or would this be believable in the Cannon).

Will I write more fan fics?  I don’t know.  They are fun to hop into for a bit and right now I am really enjoying the process.  I’m probably feeling this way after spending the last year studying and doing school work.  The escape to another world is very refreshing.

My goal right now is to get the first draft done by the time the fall semester begins.  That gives me a little less than a month.  I better get working on it!

Life sometimes just gets in the way of your plans August 3, 2010

Lately I have been putting in a bit about my life and the newest chapter in most of these posts.  I had every intention to do that yesterday morning but life got in the way.  (Confession: I set up a whole bunch of posts and set them on autopost for these kinds of days).

I drop my youngest off at day care and get back in the car with every intention to head into the office for the day.  Go to start the car and “click”.  The radio turns on and the windows open and close but the engine goes “click”.  I love my minivan (named Jorgen) and I can’t believe that I’ve had “him” for 2 years already.  With that said, we think it has something to do with the starter (duh).  Not the battery even though the “experts” had to check that too.

Oh well, so I waited for over an hour for the tow truck to tow me a full MILE to the dealership since it’s under warranty and there is no way I am paying for a tow or the repairs right now.  It’s the second time I’ve been in for this problem and it needs to be fixed and be reliable.  There is no reason that this should be an issue since it is still new, in eyes.  After waiting all day for the diagnosis of what was wrong with Jorgan, the guy at the dealership said that it started fine with both keys and the remote starter AND their fancy diagnosis tool didn’t come up with anything.  Now I just need to wait until it happens again.  Oh Joy – NOT!

I made the best of my wait.  First of all, the weather was beautiful to just hang out in so that was nice.  Second, it gave me time to start some notes on a new story.  I was going to go start a Wesley Crusher fan fic (Star Trek:TNG) but something hit me Sunday night while I was watching Star Trek:Nemesis and now I have another Captain Picard story in the works.  I want it to be a fun little story where the characters will be challenged, knowing their end fate before their adventure even begins.  I really am looking forward to starting work on it but sometimes writing the notes are just as fun.  No idea how long it will be, probably not longer than Second Chances.

When I post this new story, I’m not really sure when that will happen.  I do like to finish writing the entire story before posting.  This is mostly because I do tend to hand write out many of my stories first and then type them in after.

I’d love to hear if anyone is hankering for a ST:TNG fan fic any time soon!

Ideas a-plenty July 29, 2010

Last night I had a brilliant idea after a wonderful chat on Facebook with a few friends who are also writers.  I would love to host/attend a woman writer’s weekend.  No kids, no chores, just talking about writing, sharing ideas and having fun.

Not that I don’t have enough on my plate but it would be so fun to get together like this.  I love planning events and getting away from reality is always high on my list.  Finding a location that is cost effective would be the first part and second finding enough ladies to come would be the other one.  I know I could come up with a good program.  I see most of the “classes” being a guided discussion on various writing topics.  Maybe a guest speaker, if I could find one cheep.

Lots to think about, lots to think about.

New Story? July 27, 2010

I’ve got another idea for a story.  It’s a good one (I hope) and a bit nostalgic.  Maybe I can blame it on the Star Trek:TNG re-runs on BBCA but I see a plot forming.  Need some more research  on the exact time I was to venture into since it is very specific.

I thought I was all “done” with fan fic but this could be an interesting story.  I don’t think it would get as hot as Aria’s Song but hoping for a sweet tale of teen romance, on the Enterprise.

Not sure when I will start writing this story since I have one more week of an online class and the fall semester begins 1 Sept but time will tell.  Wish me luck and let me know if this sounds like a good idea or would like to help me flush out plot points with me.

Wow, formatting is fun! (Not)

I’m happy to announce that chapter 3 is now up and running.  In case you missed my small announcement earlier today, I had to split chapter 1 into two separate chapters so do not fear if you think you missed something after reading chapter one.  Nothing was taken out, just re-formatted.

Let me know what you think of the story so far.  I love to hear what you think.  Writers are very needy people and need reassurance.

A writer’s delema November 17, 2008

I have a bit of a problem.  This month I am supposed to be working on my NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) novel but I am totally not motivated to write it.  Instead, I find myself working on other projects – the Gwen and the Tara stories – I have in progress.

I’m getting the words in and all that good jazz but just not on the piece I’m supposed to work on.  The point of NaNoWriMo is to turn off the internal editor that plagues every writer and just write and get the story down.  There’s plenty of time to edit and do reconstructive surgery on it after November is over.  I just can’t get my mind into the story at the moment.

It’s very annoying for this to be happening especially since I’m supposed to be working on the next installment in the “Fire and Ice” series.  I have all these fun things to do with Bobbie, Connor and the rest of the crew but I just can’t get my fingers to cooperate with my mind.  I’m sure I’ll get FAI2 done, maybe switching to “old school” (aka paper and pen) will do the trick.

On another note, “Fire and Ice” is selling well and I’m happy to get such great feedback on it.  If you haven’t ordered your copy, do it soon since there is a very limited number of copies for sale and we are unsure if we will do a second printing of it when they are all gone.
