Second Chances – Chapter 46 January 22, 2010
Just before nine, Beth could hear Rob’s car pulling into her driveway and the doorbell ring. She quickly finished packing and brought her bags downstairs and deposited them at the front door.
“And it’s got a TV in it!” she could hear her son tell Rob about the new SUV in the garage.
“What color is it?” Rob asked.
“Black. I wanted red but Mommy said that red is a ticket magnet.”
Rob laughed. “Mikey have you finished your breakfast yet?” Beth asked as she entered the kitchen where her son was eating.
“Don’t blame him, I asked him about the new cars,” Rob said as he tussled the boy’s hair. “You ready to go?”
“Almost, do you want something to eat?”
“No, thank you. I had something at home.”
“Okay, let me finish getting ready.” Beth left the room and found Tara returning from putting Amy down for her morning nap.
“You ready to go?” Tara asked.
“Yeah, Tara. Am I doing the right thing?”
“What do you mean?”
“Going off with Rob. Am I leading him on or giving him the wrong idea?”
“Beth, you are sharing a ride together, right, not sharing a room. Why are you so nervous now?”
“I don’t know. I really like him and enjoy the time we spend together, but I don’t know if I’m ready for anything else.”
“It’s been almost three years. I know you’re scared.”
“But I don’t want to scare him off either.”
“Why would you? You haven’t required anything from him and he seems to adore you, so don’t worry. Just go and finish your movie.”
“Thanks Tara. I wish you could come with us. The dress is amazing.”
“I’ll see it at the premier, but you better get going,” Tara said as she almost pushed Beth towards the door.
Beth said good-bye to her son and the two stars headed for the door. Rob picked up her bags and carried them out the door to her car, where she opened the trunk where they stored both of their bags. Rob opened the driver’s side door for her and then got in on the other side. Beth tied a white scarf over her hair and put on her sunglasses before starting the car that roared to life when she turned the key. It was a lovely sunny day so she had decided to keep the top down to her brand new car and pulled out onto the street and away to the last few days of filming.
Several hours later, the brand new BMW pulled into the hotel parking lot, near where the filming would be taking place.
“Great car, Beth. I think it suits you very well,” Rob told her.
“You think so?”
“Yes, I do. It fits you like a glove.”
“It is nice. That car is the first extravagant thing I have done in a long time and I will be closing on the house real soon. I decided to buy the house the studio rented for us.”
“Things are going well for you. I am glad.”
“Thanks. I got a call from Sarah yesterday and told me the good news.”
“Yes, I’m very happy for both her and Roger.”
“She told me they wanted to have a January wedding and she asked me to be her matron of honor,” she said with a huge smile.
“You two have gotten very close since the holiday.”
“She’s a great person. We’re always e-mailing each other.”
“I know another wonderful person. Have dinner with me tonight,” Rob said slipping his arms around her waist.
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t like more, Rob,” she said and then kissed him gently.
“How about we check in and get settled. I’ll come get you in an hour.”
“That sounds lovely, thanks,” Beth said as they walked into the hotel lobby and Beth was shown to her room. Inside her room, she removed her traveling clothes and took a quick shower.
