Second Chances – Chapter 48 January 27, 2010
After they finished their gourmet dinner prepared by Peter, Rob took Beth for a tour of the grounds as the sun was beginning to dip behind the rolling hills, her arm wrapped around his.
“Rob, this place is beautiful. I can’t believe that it’s all yours,” she told him.
“Yes, I’m still not quite used to all of it yet, but it could never be as beautiful as you, Beth. I hope you come to visit me often.”
“It’s going to be tough for a while, with our production schedules… but I feel inspired here. I could write a library of books here.”
“Same here, Elizabeth. But I am always inspired when I am with you.”
“Rob, you are so kind,” she said as she turned to face him as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her. Rob was so tender and Beth thought she could easily fall in love with if she would only allow herself to give into him.
Rob finally had to pull away, but this time his body stiffened. He finally said to her, “We should get back to the hotel. Morning call is very early.”
“Okay. Rob is something wrong?”
“No, nothing is wrong when I am with you.”
“Tomorrow’s the first day that I am not looking forward to filming.”
“Why, it’s so important?”
“Because I hate running, but it would be hard to make it swimming instead.”
“You are so funny sometimes,” Rob said as he put an arm around her and guided her back to the house.
Upon returning to the hotel, he saw her safely to her room; Rob retired to his own room. His new farmhouse was in need of repairs and updating since no one had lived there for so long. Only the business operations part was new and modern. He didn’t want to rush anything with Ondovi, much like with Beth. He had been so nervous taking her there, afraid of her judgment, but he watched her enjoy every second with him and was pleasantly surprised that she said she felt inspired there. Part of him wished they never had to leave the vineyard and that she would stay with him forever. How could he be so selfish to take away another woman’s youth? Rob had married out of obligation, Jane had not been the love of his life but was the mother of his children. He had been blind with ambition to realize how miserable she really was until it was too late and now it was too late for redemption. All he could do was to beg the memory of her soul for forgiveness.
